Bishop publishes two documents on ChatGPT
Lea Bishop (Indiana-McKinney):
Can ChatGPT ‘think like a lawyer’? a socratic dialogue:
An ingenious Socratic dialogue with a language generation model, exploring the goals of legal education in the new age of machine writing.
If you’re a lawyer, law student, or law professor, you already have a good understanding of what it means to “think like a lawyer.”
For everyone else, there is ChatGPT. Hey ChatGPT help me here… Let’s have a Socratic dialogue. I will write a question and you will do your best to answer it. Your answers do not need to be perfect. Since I want my readers to see exactly how you do what you do, I’m not going to edit your answers at all. Okay, let’s go…
A Computer Wrote This Paper: What ChatGPT Means for Education, Research, and Writing:
Of particular interest to educators, an exploration of what new language generation software does (and doesn’t) do well. He argues that new models of language generation make instruction in the mechanics of writing irrelevant, and that educators should move to teaching only the most advanced writing skills that reflect and promote critical thinking. The difference between mechanical and advanced typing is illustrated through a “Socratic Dialogue” with ChatGPT. Appropriate for classroom discussion at the high school, college, professional, and doctoral level.
