Swiss Re has announced the appointment of Velina Peneva (pictured) as the group’s chief investment officer.
Peneva, whose appointment is effective April 1, 2023, will also join the Swiss Re group executive committee. He succeeds Guido Fürer, who is retiring after working at Swiss Re for 25 years.
Velina, currently co-head of client analytics and solutions in Swiss Re’s asset management unit, also previously served as head of the firm’s private equity investment mandate. Before joining Swiss Re in 2017, she worked for Bain & Company in the US, Australia and Switzerland. At Bain & Company, she most recently served as a partner and leader of the private equity and institutional investor practices in Zurich.
“We are pleased that with Velina Peneva we have been able to find a capable internal candidate to lead our asset management unit,” Swiss Re group chief executive Christian Mumenthaler said. “Velina has a very strong track record both inside and outside Swiss Re. She brings a combination of deep financial market experience, investment and strategic skills, proven leadership capabilities and a well-established industry network.”
Last December, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions appointed Allen Kwan as head of customer management and distribution for North America. In his new role, Kwan will oversee the company’s broker and client distribution strategy for the US and Canada.
