Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech nearly 60 years ago at the March on Washington for Jobs! OneUnited Bank is proud to be part of a dream worth fighting for…a dream to inspire and build our community.
After 60 years, we embody the wildest dreams of our ancestors. Yet after 60 years, we still can’t seem to breathe. We pray for our community as police brutality stalks us. We demand a response to the apparent evaporation of reparations, and we still go on constant first dates.
Still, we rise above. Marchin On. We continue… WE BUILD!
Through the economic empowerment of the entire community and a coalition of our resources, we can manifest our dream of prosperity. Now is the time to invest in our businesses. Now is the time to #BuyBlack with markets like wall street official black and put our companies at the top!
Building the dream requires us to address the pronounced wealth and income gaps between our communities. Generational conversations about wealth are shared on social media and the black dollar is spent differently. Today’s young leaders link dreams with actions as they run for office, lead the growth of new businesses, join the #blackbank movement and starting organizations like #Black Lives Matter.
During the 2020 protests, “I Can’t Breathe” shared our experience of living through stifling injustices and, with resounding audacity, declared WE BREATHE! WE WILL DREAM! WE WILL ACT!
As described in our Dashboard Update 2022the heart of our strategy is to eliminate the #Racial wealth gapset #Financial education among our community, and increase our ability to support #BlackOwnedBusinesses.
Access to financial tools is critical for our community to continue driving growth. That’s why we launched cash please, a national short-term small dollar loan program without the need for a credit check. To increase accessibility to our current accounts, we launched the Wall Street Black Checking Account no monthly fee.
Martin Luther King Jr. emphasizes the importance of working in solidarity with our allies to bridge gaps and bridge divisions. We create the Greenwood Visa Debit Card to illustrate a promise and potential for our community.
What the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. teaches us is that both a dream and a plan of action are important to make change tangible. Join us in celebrating the life and excellence of a champion of freedom. Let freedom ring!
